I like this thought! It especially kills me when everyone puts these "regular" men and women up on those pedestals, praising them for what they're doing (which most of the time is nothing all that special) and then talk so bad abt those same "pedesataled folk" when they happen to slip and prove they were only really just human to begin with.
How abt we put ourselves on those pedestals and then try to live up to what we're expecting that pedestal to represent? I'll bet that would be a challenge no one would ever really want to accept.

A twitter user I gave a special recommend to on a FF sent out a tweet about how he/she is a grand thinker etc. and some of the things they say may offend. Okay so the day before that he/she had tweeted something that was meant to be humorous, and I knew that it was, but it contained one of my trigger words so I tweeted back a routine response not with anger or anything. I don't take offense to tweets because I don't know those people. He/she responded that it was a joke and apologized if I was offended. I didn't think it was anything they had to apologize for so I said who cares if I am offended. That's just one of my trigger words. He/she blocked me shortly after. So my long point is that person appears phony to me now. They can say whatever they want but if you even respectfully respond with something contrary to their beliefs then you're no longer worthy to tweet with them. And I'm assuming this person isn't the only Twitter user like that. People are taking these services far too seriously and something silly like FF and follow counts seem to be creating internet divas. I'll still do it but only in response to one. And since I don't make it a point to kiss any Twitter butts, I don't get that many.

I agree with your reasoning on discontinuing the Followfriday practice, I stopped for the same reason but, chose not to make an announcement (nothing wrong that option IMO). I also realized that as diverse adults one persons reason for following someone may not translate the same for another.
I used to blindly follow and suggest follows but, upon tighter scrutiny I found that many tweeter sent my way on followfriday lists were not the engaging type or even the caliber of person I'd interact with beyond professional requirements. Meeting "my" standard is not a universal requirement for the twitterverse but, I'm not out to inflate someones follower count on GP.
I look at Twitter like a real conversation or other social engagement and in neither of these real life situations would I stick around if nothing grabbed my attention and/or what I had to contribute received no consideration.
So kudos on the No more "Follow Friday" Foolishness.

thanks for this post....i'm kinda new to the social websiting thang...before twitter i only had a yahoo 360 page. that format totally grew old with me very quick, and along came twitter and saved me from the monotony. (360 dead [bleep] closed down anyways.)

upon entry on twitter i noticed the #FF thing. i didn't quite understand it, but being a newbie i didn't wanna seem the oddball so i complied for 2 fridays. at the time i had about 150 followers, and it seemed so colorless to put forth all the effort to have to open two web windows, one to paste onTO---the other with ur followers to copy FROM.....and then only to find out noone is following my recommendations...ANNND ain't nobody following me either! soooo it's like Okkaayyyy...this is realll dumb...and i ain't doing it no more...

however for the people that are still choosing to do it...that's cool--i'll still check out some of their choices. and i also will retweet when my name is mentioned....that's the least i can do for the person that went out of their way to think of me.

Hi Faydra! You already know my issues with #FollowFriday (tiring, repetitive, political, etc.). I tried to get out of a couple times but then some people's feelings were hurt. *sigh* It's become some kind of popularity contest - as if you don't appreciate someone if you don't #FF them. This is ridiculous considering Twitter has an open policy regarding viewing who others are following. We can all SEE who you would recommend on #FollowFriday. lol

As you know, I tried to do #MondayMentions too but that quickly became more cumbersome than #FollowFriday because I interact with many, many, many people during the week.

My latest idea is to do a weekly Jazzzy Awards, where I award people for their efforts on Twitter. We'll see how long I can keep this up before it gets exhausting, too...

Thanks again for the Monday Mention. I always enjoy engaging and interacting with you! Keep up the good work staying true to you.

Also, lots of 3rd party applications include a function that allows you to see the entire thread or conversation regarding the mystery tweet.

On a different note, md20737's position of women sticking together instead hating others for no reason is one that should be applied regardless of sex.

I had to write here, because twitter nor twitlonger.com would do justice to what I have to say. I am late coming on board due to just finding Faydra.. I have felt this way for so long and I did take a stance. I simply just stopped #FF for a while, yet, there were people I really wanted others to get to know. I didn't think it through as Faydra did, therefore, I started adding why I ask you to follow this person. Example: I would say, Faydra puts up a QOTD, daily. Please check out her Blog, etc. Somehow, I felt less like a hypocrite for asking one stranger to follow another stranger. When I say Monday Mentions along with this post resonated with me, I, certainly meant it. At one point I became extremely frustrated with #FF. There are a few people I want to ask, why do you ask people to follow me, you haven't had dialogue with me in weeks, yet, I'm trying to keep peace.... :-) In keeping the peace, I find myself growing more aggravated by the days. As you can see, it hasn't worked. Faydra has found a tool that works for me & people like me. I guess I can also blame it on peri-menopause, also! LOL! Thank you, Faydra. You are a Genius in your own right!

Well written, I watched the video and frankly was very surprised the driver was not arrested. I recall years ago rushing to get my cousin to the airport in time and flying along on the highway when I passed a police car monitoring traffic heading in the opposite direction. Not a half mile later I see ahead of me another officer issuing a citation on the shoulder. His head pops up (I guess in response to a radio alert of my approach), and he takes a quick step partly onto the lane next to me and points from me to the shoulder.

Could I have kept on going? Sure. Did I? No way. I pulled over immediately. I have to get to the airport, yes, but I'll never get before the flight departs if I'm hauled off to jail. I apologized, explaiedn why I was acting in blatant disregard for the law and provided the actual plane ticket as proof.

But this isn't about me. What I see while watching the video of the traffic stop is just another case of a professional athelete who thinks the rules outside the sports arena don't apply to them. I see a police officer exercising his disgression, not conducting an arrest or tow of the vehicle.

I agree with you. If he had explained in a calm and clear manner the circumstances behind his actions everything may have turned out differently. However, I'd go further and say that this would have been the case only if he had pulled over right away. Who knows? He may have been given a police escort to see him there quickly and safely.

The two scriptures you have chosen to convey your message are so inter-related in that they describe living a daily life consistent with faith, sacrifice, and unwavering love of Christ. It describes the acts of choice and free will that defines a life lived in balance and a call to action for the good of the Lord. Again, the two describe a life beyond the time when part-time believers of Christ idly wait for Sunday to come, while exalting themselves in the mean time. Well Done, Faydra.
